In nearly thirty five years of painting, the Vicksburg, MS native created paintings that celebrated the ordinary, the simple, and the honest view of human nature. As a result of his extraordinary talents, he joined the ranks of the most celebrated artists in the country. His art has been exhibited in prestigious galleries, exhibitions, and museum collections all over the nation. His paintings sold out in Washington D.C., after being exhibited in the rotunda of the U.S. Senate building under the auspices of Senator Russell Long. He was a versatile artist who handled figures studies, portraits, human interests situations, landscapes and semi-abstracts equally well. He used a diversity of styles, from expressive realism to the semi-abstract, all of which bear the unmistakable stamp of William Tolliver.
